I've always liked Andy Grove and I really like his idea of having a US job-centric policy. We need to find ways to both innovate and scale in the US. Both are important. It's the reason the US is the most innovative country in the world. Save the last 15 or so years, we've always done that.
There's a lot of talk about the 'knowledge worker'. What does that mean? Is that a bunch of people sitting around the table with a bunch of good ideas? If so, let me know how that works out for you. We need American workers who innovate, build, produce, and deliver goods and services. All are important. Exporting jobs has always been a short-term solution to a much bigger problem. How do we find incentives for American businesses to keep jobs in America while making it profitable for them and economical for the consumer? Answer that question and you'll earn my vote.
A non-existent middle class is a huge problem for America and American businesses. We need to find ways to grow the middle class and Grove's concept, although not a perfect solution, is a good way to begin the dialogue.
