Romney expressed a muddled position on subsidies in his book "No Apology", ran to the left of Pawlenty on ethanol subsidies to help knock him out, and now moves back to a muddled position now that Pawlenty is out and Bachmann is toast. Perhaps a fairer assessment is that Romney expressed a more adventurous position in "No Apology", moved back to the old orthodoxy earlier in Iowa, and now is moving back to his more adventurous position as it becomes the new orthodoxy.
